Conor McCormack confirms Cork City departure

Conor McCormack is the latest player to depart Cork City.

The 29-year old is the latest player to leave the Leeside club following a tightening of purse strings at Turner's Cross.

McCormack follows the likes of Dan Casey (now Bohemians) and Karl Sheppard (now Shelbourne) in leaving Cork ahead of the 2020 season.

The former Derry City and St. Pat's midfielder has spent three seasons with Cork making 35 appearances across all competitions in 2019.

Part of the double-winning side of 2017, McCormack said "it's been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to wear the Cork City jersey week in week out the last 3 years.

"To everyone involved at the club I want to wish them all the very best in the future and thank them for all the hard work they put in behind the scenes.

"To all the players I’ve played with thanks for all the amazing memories.

"Most importantly a big thank you to the incredible fans for your support through the years.

"I’ll never forget the nights we had the Cross rocking you’s [sic] made me feel right at home from day 1."

Cork's disappointing domestic and European campaigns in 2019 are sure to have a knock-on effect on finances at the club, which has resulted in manager Neale Fenn needing to be canny in how he assembles his 2020 squad.

The Leeside club thanked McCormack for his three years, with manager Fenn adding, "Conor has been a great servant to the club, winning trophies and leading the club into massive games and the supporters really took to him while he was here.

"We thank him massively for all that he’s done for the club."
