Connacht trio sign contract extensions with the province

Three experienced Connacht players have signed new deals with the province.

Tiernan O'Halloran, Sean O'Brien and Tom Farrell have all put pen-to-paper on new contracts keeping them west of the Shannon until the end of the 2021-22 season.

Speaking about the contract extensions, Connacht head coach Tom Friend said, "We are delighted to announce that Tiernan, Sean and Tom have all committed to Connacht for a further two seasons.

"These three players are key to our ambitions and their signings are a statement of belief in what we are trying to achieve.

"We have made a positive start to the season so far but have some vital Pro14 and Champions Cup in the coming weeks.

"These signings are a great boost for the rest of the squad and everyone who supports Connacht Rugby”.

Full-back O'Halloran is the most experienced of the bunch, having made 175 appearances for Connacht to date, along with six Ireland caps.

Centre Farrell earned international recognition in March when he was called into Joe Schmidt's Ireland squad during the Six Nations. The 24-year old's made 55 appearances for Connacht since joining from Bedford Blues in 2017.

O'Brien made the step up from Galwegians in 2015 with the versatile forward earning nearly 60 provincial caps since then.

Staying with Connacht, and they've announced they'll be installing additional temporary terracing for Friday night's Guinness Pro 14 meeting with Leinster at the Sportsground.

While an exact number hasn't been specified, Connacht say the capacity will be beyond the 6,229 ordinarily housed in the Galway ground.

Head of Commercial and Marketing at Connacht Rugby, Brian Mahony said: “There has been a huge demand for tickets for our game against Leinster on Friday night and based off this demand we will be increasing our capacity with additional temporary terracing. #

"The terracing will be installed at both ends of the ground and facilitate the large crowds expected for the first interpro of the season".

Connacht sit 2nd in Conference B having lost just one of their first five games of the season.
