Clare GAA has announced there are two nominees for the role of senior hurling manager for 2020 - two weeks after the process had to be reopened.

Louis Mulqueen and Brian were believed to be the frontrunners for the role on October 9th, when it was expected one would be ratified as the manager for next year - and again they are the two nominees.

It is reported by Clare FM that interviews with the two men will be carried out in the next few days.

At a meeting of the county board two weeks ago clubs voted to reopen the process as there were concerns about the way it was carried out - primarily from the players.

At the time, the players released a statement to the Clare Champion which detailed they had frustrations at the length of time it took to chose a replacement for the joint-ticket of Gerry O'Connor and Donal Moloney. They were also concerned that no players were consulted during the process.

The Clare hurlers last lifted Liam McCarthy in 2013 under the guidance of current-Wexford boss Davy Fitzgerald. Then-19-year-old Shane O'Donnell shone in the replay at Croke Park under the lights against Cork - scoring a hat-trick of goals inside the first 20 minutes of the game.

However, since then they have only reached the All-Ireland semi-final once. This summer, they enjoyed wins over Waterford and Cork in the Munster championship - however, it wasn't enough to make it to the All-Ireland series.

The first championship venture for the new manager is a trip to Thurles to take on reigning All-Ireland champions Tipperary.
