Brian Cody to take charge of Kilkenny for a 23rd Championship year

Brian Cody has been ratified as manager of the Kilkenny senior hurlers for a 23rd Championship campaign, but DJ Carey has left the backroom team.

The 11 time All Ireland winner will be assisted by James McGarry and Martin Comerford on Noreside.

Kilkenny have not won the Liam McCarthy Cup since 2015.

The black and amber claimed the Leinster title last year, but lost at the All Ireland semi-final stage to Waterford.

Michael Comerford is to continue as strength and conditioning coach.

James Stephens club man Cody is the most successful manager in the history of the game.

In addition to the 11 Liam McCarthy Cups he has brought home to the county, Cody has overseen his players win 16 Leinster titles, 9 National Leagues and 7 Walsh Cups.

His longevity now matches Meath's Sean Boylan, who managed the Royal footballers between 1982 and 2005.
