Barcelona confirm Aubameyang signing

Barcelona have officially confirmed the arrival of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

The Arsenal striker has joined the club on a free transfer, bringing an end to a turbulent time in north London.

Aubameyang hadn't played for the Gunners since December and was stripped of the captaincy due to disciplinary issues.

In all, the Gabon international scored 68 times in 128 appearances following his move to Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in 2018.

"FC Barcelona and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have reached an agreement for the player to join the club after the striker terminated his contract with Arsenal FC," a Barcelona statement said.

"The player will sign a contract until 30 June 2025 with an option to agree departure on 30 June 2023 and his buy-out clause will be set at €100 million."

Aubameyang took to Instagram to wish Arsenal well at the weekend.

"To the Arsenal fans, thank you for making London home for myself and my family for the past four years.

"We went through ups and downs together and your support meant everything to me.

"Having the chance to win trophies and the honour of being the captain of this club is something I will forever keep in my heart."

The decision to strip the striker of the captaincy in December was because of a lack of commitment, according to Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.

The Spaniard said at the time that they made the call "because we believe that he has failed to be committed at the level that we all expect and agreed, as simple as that,"

"What I expect from any person in this football club, that is representing this badge, is passion and that he gives absolutely 100%, that he puts the club in front of any personal interests and is able to do anything to fulfil the badge we have on the chest.

"Apart from that, you can listen to individuals and you can understand different cultures, but that commitment and passion has to be there. Unfortunately, it wasn't."
