Alisson the latest Liverpool player to sign new long-term contract

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has signed a new long-term deal with the club.

The Brazilian's new contract will keep him at Anfield until the summer of 2027.

He follows teammates Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho and Caoimhin Kelleher in committing his future to the Anfield club.

Alisson was an instant hit at Liverpool, following his €75million capture from Roma in the summer of 2018. He helped them win the UEFA Champions League the following May, and was a key component of the side that bridged a 30-year gap between league titles.

The 28-year old is set to make his first appearance of pre-season in Thursday's meeting with Bologna.

"I think as you are getting older, you are building a family, you start to think more in your family than in yourself, in your professional terms – but still you have to think on that," Alisson told the Liverpool website.

"For me professionally, it's the best decision, it's the same decision as I took when I first came here.

"Since I arrived here, I started to win trophies with this amazing team, with this amazing group. I started to develop myself in many aspects in football, in my life.

"Also my family. Ray, the team manager, he told me once a sentence about the family – 'Happy wife, happy life.' My wife is really happy here, in England, she's happy for my children, for myself, for herself as well.

"We found a purpose in our life here and I'm really, really happy to continue wearing this shirt."

Meanwhile, it's been confirmed that Thiago Alcantara will miss that Bologna friendly through injury.

The Spain international midfielder only reported back to pre-season training last week following his involvement at Euro 2020.

"Thiago came here with a slight issue," his manager Jurgen Klopp revealed, "He has three weeks off and the slight issue is still [there], which he was feeling.

"We don't take any risks. He's part of parts of training and in these little things he looks great, but it's more the longer distances where he struggles slightly.

"We have to make sure that will be sorted and we are on it. I think he will be in next week, [at the] latest, in full training."
