Brighton striker Aaron Connolly could be in line to face the Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield this weekend.

The Republic of Ireland international has been out of action with a groin injury that forced him off at half-time during the Seagull's defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier this month.

His manager Graham Potter revealed that midfielder Solly March is a doubt for the trip to Merseyside but that the Galway teenager is back in action.

"Aaron Connolly has been back in the squad and training this week," confirmed Potter this afternoon.

Connolly missed the last pair of international games against New Zealand and Denmark while he was also absent for Brighton's defeat to Leicester City last weekend.

The 19-year-old has become a regular starter since he exploded onto the Premier League stage with a two-goal haul in the win against Tottenham in October.

Brighton currently lie 12th in the table on 15 points.

Graham Potter reacts to new Brighton six-year deal

Their form was deemed good enough for the club's chairman Tony Bloom to give Potter a new six-year deal, just six months after joining the club from Championship side Swansea.

44-year-old Potter admits that he was surprised to be asked to extend his stay after such a short spell at the South-coast club.

"We've still got a lot to do, from my perspective it's a little bit strange because we haven't done anything," said Potter.

"I'm not one of those people that feels that secure by the length of the contract. I know the business we're in.

"It's a fantastic gesture and symbol and signal from the club that they believe in the potential that we're showing ... so we're delighted."
