Anton finally got the chance to ‘Talk To Joe’ on Friday when Joe Duffy, host of Liveline and author of ‘Children of the Rising – The Untold Stories of the young lives lost during Easter 1916’ joined him for a chat.

The broadcaster and author told Anton about his new TV show 'Liveline Callback', which is on RTE1 Tuesday’s at 7pm. The show revists some of ‘Liveline’s’ greatest, most memorable calls. Liveline has been an institution now for 16 years, and Joe is proud of the show. But some of his elders are less impressed. As he jokes to Anton, when asked about what her son did for a living, his mother said his job is “answering the phones in RTE”!
Joe’s also spoke about his new book 'Children of the Rising - The Untold Story of the Young Lives Lost During Easter 1916', which is selling like hot cakes at the moment, and was recently the winner of the non-fiction book of the year at Irish Book Awards
In 'Children of the Rising', Joe explores a previously overlooked aspect of that pivotal week in Irish history - the deaths of 40 children among the 300 killed in the crossfire.
The dad-of-three says that it is a book full of "uncomfortable truths" and contains a "completely new part of the story of 1916 that has simply never been told before". He became so immersed in the book when writing, the children he wrote about became 'his children', much to the amusement of his own family!
