The Oireachtas Special Committee on Covid-19 Response has heard that a 'Zero Covid' policy will not work.
Sweden's former state epidemiologist Johan Giesecke, now an advisor to the World Health Organization, told the committee that Ireland should consider allowing a controlled spread of the virus among those under the age of 60.
Professor Kirsten Schaffer, president of the Irish Society of Clinical Microbiology, also addressed the committee.
She joined us on The Last Word along with Priscilla Lynch, clinical editor of the Medical Independent, to discuss whether this would be a feasible solution.
