Is there a growing problem with violent threats or behaviour towards referees in underage sports?
Harry McCann is a regular guest on The Last Word as Managing Director of Trendster Media, but he has also been an underage football referee for the past few years.
He revealed in a tweet over the weekend that he had received threats and verbal abuse from parents, managers and players while refereeing a game.
Refereeing kids soccer today and:
- 1 match abandoned.
- Been called a "f**king cabbage" by a manager.
- Been called a "f**king faggot" by a 14-years-old.
- A 14-year-old tried to square up to me.
- 2 parents threatened to "meet me in the car park after".
