Taoiseach Micheál Martin confirmed on The Last Word yesterday that those over 70 will not be given the AstraZeneca vaccine due to a lack of evidence about how well it protects older people.
This age group will now be offered the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines instead.
This change to the rollout plan means that only 30,000 vaccines will be administered next week.
