Donald Trump has once again been accused of racism after his scathing comments about the US city of Baltimore.
In an attack on Democratic Congressman Elijah Cummings, who represents the city, Trump described Baltimore as "a disgusting, rat and rodent-infested mess" in which no human being would want to live.
Cummings is African-American, and his district is also a predominantly black area.
He took to Twitter to defend Baltimore and his constituents.
Mr. President, I go home to my district daily. Each morning, I wake up, and I go and fight for my neighbors.
It is my constitutional duty to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch. But, it is my moral duty to fight for my constituents.— Elijah E. Cummings (@RepCummings) July 27, 2019
