A disturbing video has been circulating which shows a Dublin taxi driver being racially abused and assaulted by a passenger.
The incident took place on Easter Sunday, and the footage was captured by a dash cam in the driver's vehicle.
The man who carried out the attack has since handed himself in to An Garda Síochána.
Derek Devoy, founder of TaxiWatch, says the driver is "very distraught", and urged all taxi drivers to invest in dash cams for their own safety.
"I wouldn't dare do a job without having one in the car."
Thereza Boochkofska, Integration Team Coordinator with the Immigrant Council of Ireland, says there have been cases of passengers refusing to travel with taxi drivers who are not white, and that legislation is needed to stop racial discrimination.
"If you are not being given work because of your skin colour, that's clear discrimination."
"You can sustain physical injuries, but they will heal eventually. It's the mental injuries that stay with you because you were attacked because of your skin colour, religion or ethnic background."
