Sepsis, the body's response to an infection, is a potentially life-threatening condition and one of the 10 major causes of death in Ireland.
It is considered a medical emergency which must be treated quickly.
Those most susceptible to developing sepsis include children, people over the age of 65 and people with weakened immune systems or chronic medical conditions.
