Minister for Health Simon Harris has confirmed that a working group will be established to examine the removal of cost barriers to accessing contraception.
We were joined by three guests to discuss what the working group hopes to achieve and whether all contraception should be freely available.
Ann Marie Horan of the Irish Pharmacies Union says cost, accessibility and availability are all reasons why people may not be using contraception.
"We really want to reduce the amount of abortions that are needed, so it's a good idea that we can increase the availability of contraception."
Priscilla Lynch, Clinical Editor of the Medical Independent, feels "it's also about extending choice to women and men" regarding the different types of contraception that are available, as some are more reliable than others.
Dr. Andy Jordan, chairman of the National Association of General Practitioners, says, "We'd like to be part of the conversation and have an input so that whatever is brought in is meaningful and represents real reform."
