There has been a substantial increase in sales of non-alcoholic beer in Ireland.

Sales increased by 65% from 2017 to 2018, and overall alcohol consumption has declined by about 24% since 2001.

According to a survey by the Irish Brewers Association last year, 57% of respondents wanted to have more non-alcoholic beer options available on menus or at bars throughout Ireland.

Why has the demand for these options increased? Are Irish consumers simply becoming more health-conscious?

Jonathan McDade from the Irish Brewers Association and Cormac O'Dwyer, Head Brewer with the Dungarvan Brewing Company, joined us to discuss this.
