Many people suffer with sinus problems, but what are they and what can be done about it?
Sinuses are air-filled cavities at the front of your head. They produce mucus which lines the nose and helps prevent the entry of pollutants.
Sinusitis occurs when the sinuses become inflamed. Symptoms can include pain around the eyes and face, a reduced sense of smell, green or yellow mucus and postnasal drip.
The most common causes are smoking and allergies.
While most cases of sinus infection clear up on their own, roughly one third of cases require antibiotics. Other treatments which can relieve the discomfort include nasal sprays and nasal rinses.
Dr Ray Walley joined us for our weekly medical consultation to discuss this.
