As an obstetrician and former Master of the National Maternity Hospital, Dr Peter Boylan has spent his career working for women's health in Ireland.
He was also involved in public debate during the referendum on the Eighth Amendment.
He has now written his autobiography, In the Shadow of the Eighth, which deals with these issues.
He spoke to us on The Last Word about the status of the new National Maternity Hospital, the impact of the Eighth Amendment and how things have changed for women in Ireland over the last few years.
