The Mansion House will turn purple tomorrow to mark ‘Intersex Day of Solidarity’.
Intersex people are people that are born with sex characteristics that don’t meet medical and social norms for female or male bodies. As a result of this, Intersex people suffer stigma and discrimination in society.
It is thought that approximately 1.78% of the population are intersex, with Crumlin Children’s Hospital seeing 2-3 new disorders of sexual development cases every year.
Joining us to discuss what it is to be intersex and attitudes towards intersex people, are Clara Barry, Vice Chair of Intersex Ireland and Dr Tanya Ní Mhuirthile, Assistant Professor at the School of Law and Government in DCU.
