Lyme Disease is caused by a bacteria which is transmitted to humans through tick bites.
Although not as common in Ireland as it is in some other countries, it's thought to be under-diagnosed. There were about 500 confirmed cases of Lyme Disease in Ireland last year.
Early symptoms include fever, chill, fatigue, headache, muscle and joint aches and a rash, but it can also cause cardiac and neurological symptoms. There are several antibiotic treatments available.
