Leo Varadkar has apologised for likening Micheál Martin to a 'sinning priest'.
The Taoiseach made the remarks during a Dáil debate yesterday, saying the Fianna Fáil leader reminded him of a parish priest "who preaches from the altar, telling us to avoid sin while secretly going behind the altar and engaging in any amount of sin himself".
Following calls to clarify his comments, the Taoiseach described the debate as "bitter and personal" and apologised for any offence caused.
Political commentator Lise Hand and Irish Examiner political editor Daniel McConnell joined us to discuss the incident.
