Localised lockdowns were imposed in Kildare, Laois and Offaly over the weekend in response to a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases.
Dr Tomás Ryan, Associate Professor in the School of Biochemistry and Immunology at Trinity College Dublin, has suggested that this is unlikely to be the last localised lockdown.
