Cardiovascular disease is an illness affecting all of the blood vessels throughout the body.
Approximately one in four people die from cardiovascular disease, and around 80% of premature deaths associated with the condition are preventable.
Illnesses such as dementia, angina, renal failure, heart attack and stroke can result from cardiovascular disease, while high cholesterol and high blood pressure are risk factors.
Dr Brian Higgins, GP at Galway Primary Care, joined us for our weekly health slot to discuss ways of preventing and treating this disease.
