Health Minister Simon Harris has indicated that the government is considering the idea of making vaccinations mandatory for infants and children.
Dr Ray Walley, who joins us every Wednesday for our weekly medical consultation, says he would support such a move on an individual basis.
He points to measles as an example of a preventable disease that can be fatal or cause long-term damage if contracted.
"If you have a patient who has been infected with measles, and you are in a room within two hours after that person and are unvaccinated, you have a 90% chance of getting this."
"We need to be making sure we are engaging with social media to target the people who are putting out this anti-vaccine advice, and maybe looking at legislation if they are actually making comments which are effectively wrong."
