A Cork mother is calling on the Department of Health to allow the continued delivery of medicinal cannabis to her daughter after lockdown.
Vera Twomey's 11-year-old daughter Ava has Dravet syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy characterised by prolonged seizures.
Vera credits medicinal cannabis with saving Ava's life. She used to have 100 seizures a day and spent months of each year in hospital, but she is now 95% seizure-free and able to attend school happily.
Prior to the pandemic, Ava and her parents had been travelling to the Netherlands every 12 weeks to collect the medicinal cannabis. Since April, it has been delivered to their home due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
They have now been told they will have to travel again post-lockdown, which Vera fears is too dangerous for Ava.
She joined Matt on The Last Word to explain the situation.
