Bipolar Disorder is a mental illness that causes disturbances in a person's mood, energy and ability to function.
The severe mood swings that occur generally last for weeks to months at a time and can result in damaged relationships, difficulty with employment and significant risk of harm due to reckless or impulsive behaviour.
Between 1 and 3% of people worldwide have Bipolar Disorder, with most experiencing their first symptoms between the ages of 15 and 30.
Dr Doireann O'Leary, GP with MyCorkGP and health blogger, joined us to discuss Bipolar Disorder in more detail.
