"It literally took me seconds to come up with that"
As music portfolios go, they don't get much better than what the Gallagher brothers have created over the years.
Oasis were the poster boys of the Britpop movement and that was largely thanks to the creative control of older sibling Noel, who penned most their big hits.
Speaking exclusively on The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show, the High Flying Birds frontman reveals the best opening lyrics to a song he's ever written after Iano stating, "the hardest line to write is the first one".
Now I could tell you what it is, but I think it's better you hear it from the main man himself, in the podcast. I'll give you a clue - it's from the Definitely Maybe album and I reckon not many people will guess it.
Inspiration for Black Star Dancing
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds have recently released their retro hit Black Star Dancing, a song the 52-year-old admits he "didn't intentionally set out to write...I was just in studio when what I was working, that particular time, wasn't going anywhere".
Dempsey teases out the story as to how David Bowie inspired the sound and praises the production team for the concept behind the video for the track.
For a man who says, "I'm not really that good in front of a camera", I think he's being pretty modest.
Have a look:
When asked about the resurgence of guitars in modern music, Gallagher says, "It’s kind of long overdue because as great as electropop is and all that kind of thing, there’s a great human element to the guitar and the guitarist". So he's loving the comeback.
Gallagher also chats about what it's like touring with Bono's son Ely, from Dublin band Inhaler, and the connection he has to the Hewsons, "Ely does have a way with melody that his old man has got, it's kind of uncanny which will come as no surprise to anyone".
And of course, Ian couldn't let him go without asking about this:
Impromptu @NoelGallagher gig in the dressing room!! 😆
An anthem for the Champions!
