The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show have spoken to Helen Behan a couple of times over the past few years and her story is just unbelievable.
Here’s a very quick run-through…
Helen has four kids, works as a nurse but had always wanted to try acting.
She was in a pub in Bettystown when she noticed famous English TV Director Shane Meadows was there on his holidays. She was a fan so she got talking to him & bluntly asked him for a role in one of his programmes. He asked her to send some details to him & he came back with a part for her. And so it began…
In 2015, Helen who listens to the show every morning got in touch to say she got a part in This Is England that aired on Channel 4.
In 2019, Helen was on the show again to tell us she had a lead role in a new Channel 4 show called The Virtues starring alongside Stephen Graham to rave reviews yet again. (All while still nursing here in Ireland!)
We had Helen on again this morning as her story has just gotten even better!
She has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the BAFTAS!
To make matters all the more unbelievable, she’s been working in the Covid 19 Assessment Unit in Drogheda since the Coronavirus hit the country! Her colleagues sent her home early yesterday to celebrate.
Even though it was remotely, we had to celebrate! @jackthorne joined us for 43 secs told us he loved us & went to cook burgers! #TheVirtues #BeyondGrateful @MarkSherbert @StephenGraham73 @helenbehan @NiamhAlgar @ShadyMeadows pic.twitter.com/zLpTgWPe7F

The BAFTA ceremony is on July 31st and despite it being an online ceremony, she’s getting the hair done, dress on and treating like a proper ceremony!
She is up against Helena Bonham Carter from The Crown! The Virtues is on the All 4 player if you missed first time around.
