Hurley-making is an artform that has been passed down through generations of highly skilled craftsmen in this country but according to Paschal Donohoe, it's not really an art.
In Ireland, there is an Artistic Tax Exemption Scheme, which means painters, sculptors, musicians and writers can make as much as €50,000 a year (tax-free) if their work is considered to be of cultural merit.
But when a politician suggested the hurley-making was to be added to this list, Minister Donohoe was having none of it.
