During the week, Mairead got a message in from listener Brendan with a picture of him proudly wearing his O'Neills Howya Hoody, and Mairead spotted a framed Sacred Heart picture complete with the lamp in the background. That got her thinking - what things make a home distinctively Irish?
The listeners came back with an extensive list you can read here:
- Papal flag
- A massive amount of spirit's that no-one ever drank🤦♀️
- Pint glasses from the pub
- In older houses, a draught excluder/snake at the front door 🤣
- That gold coal/briquette chest with the pressed art design on it every Irish person has in their living room
- The plates going up the stairs on the wall with all the Irish sayings, prayers etc., the good room unused as we all sit around the kitchen table!
- Tea / teabags
- Biscuit tin full of bits & bobs
- Sudocream
- Wooden spoon
- A copy of David Gray’s White Ladder
- Shopping bag full of shopping bags
- A press for tubber ware only
- Damien Rice’s Album ‘O’
- ‘Good’ glasses, plates & cutlery only used on Christmas day
- Child of Prague
- Rosary beads
What else do you think makes a home distinctively Irish?
