Now that Halloween is out of the way, we turn our attention to Christmas! It won't be long until we see the lights going up, and the people of Ballyhaunis are doing things a little differently this year.
In previous years, local retailers in the town would have funded the costs to have the Christmas lights put up and all the work that goes along with it, but like so many businesses, they have had a tough time this year so the Chamber of Commerce didn't want to ask them for donations.
They did discuss not doing the lights at all this year, but it was decided that now more than ever they are needed to give everyone a boost. Mayo County Council and local Councillors have given a large sum to get them on the way, and a GoFundMe has been set up to raise the rest.
Anyone who donates €5 or more will be entered in to a draw for some brilliant prizes that have been put up by businesses in Ballyhaunis, and 10% of anything raised through the GoFundMe to Ballyhaunis Western Care whose fundraising took a hit this year too.
