We as a nation we are obsessed with seeing other people’s homes and gardens, and with everyone stuck at home looking for inspiration on what we can dickie up in our own homes, the new series of Super Garden continues on RTÉ 1 tonight. The designer featured in this evening's episode is Mark Hoey and he joined Mairead on the line today.
This year the show has a new format - the 5 designers are all given identical gardens next to each other in a new social housing development which has leveled the playing field and also allows them to interact with each other over the walls!
Mark is designing a garden for Shelly Gaynor - a disability campaigner who has Cerebral Palsy and uses a wheelchair. He wanted to create a place for Shelly to be outside that would be calming and uplifting, and without giving too much away, he created a beautiful spot for her to do just that!
Mark also gave some tips for budding gardeners or those of us who can't manage to keep a plant alive - don't just buy what looks good and hope for the best, do some research and find a plant the suits the place where you'll have it. Some plants prefer shade, some only need to be watered every few weeks, and if in doubt - ask the experts in your local garden centre!
