Many people will know Niamh Fitzpatrick from the excellent relationship advice she has given to Today FM listeners over the years, and unfortunately many more now know her as Captain Dara Fitzpatrick of Rescue 116's sister. Niamh sat down for a chat with Mairead about her new book 'Tell Me The Truth About Loss'.
The book isn't just about the death about her sister Dara, it's about the many different forms that grief takes and how it doesn't always follow a bereavement.
Niamh shares her own experiences of grief over Dara's death, the breakdown of her marriage, and her hopes to be a mother that sadly didn't come to be. She talks about the pressure we feel to move on and get back to "normal".
Most importantly, the book is about finding hope and how we learn to grow our life around the grief. Niamh says, "Grief is the gatecrasher that brings gifts to the party", and we learn so much about ourselves after a loss.
I could never have imagined that my beautiful sister would die mid-way through her life.
I've written about what loss feels like to me. How grief nearly broke me. And how I found hope. #TellMeTheTruthAboutLoss is in bookshops from today. I hope you like it.❤@Gill_Books pic.twitter.com/yLTRO2RDqP
