You may remember photos and videos from 4 years ago when a sheep was found wandering the bush in Australia carrying around 5 years’ worth of wool. He was severely struggling under the weight of the wool and you could barely see his face and legs. It turned out that he was carrying 41 kilos of Merino wool – a world record. News coming from Australia this morning though is that Chris the Sheep has died, and Mairead was joined on the line by his carer Kate from Little Oak Sanctuary.
After he was found, Chris was taken in by the good people at Little Oak Sanctuary where he was sheared down to a more manageable fleece, and he was well cared for. Kate spoke about what a wonderful experience it was to watch him come around to his first encounters with people, and how he learned from the other sheep to trust the staff at the sanctuary.
Kate also told us something interesting about his name - it has an Irish connection! Chris was named by the people who discovered him wandering in the bushland, and they named him after the award winning Chris who appeared in an episode of Father Ted.
Condolences to all at Little Oaks Sanctuary.
