You probably remember the dramatic sudden death penalty shoot-out last November that saw the Irish women’s hockey team defeat Canada and secure their place in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Today Mairead was joined by one of the members of the team, Nicci Daly!
Nicci told Mairead about the magic of that day in Donnybrook, and how the team managed to keep going after their disappointment the last time they played in an Olympic qualifier.
Nicci also chatted about her dad, Vivion Daly, and his incredible career as a racing driver which inspired her love of motorsports. Nicci has a Masters in Motorsport Engineering and Data Engineering and is the founder of Formula Female and the Go Girls Karting initiative.
She set these up to encourage and give young women an awareness of the world of Motorsport, whether it’s competing as a driver or undertaking a career through STEM.
This Friday, Nicci will be a keynote speaker at the I WISH Showcase event in Cork City Hall as part of the initiative to inspire young women to pursue a career in STEM.
