Fr Haugh was in for a surprise
With Donald Trump's two-day visit to Ireland kicking off today, Dermot and Dave wanted to get a sense of what the mood is like in Co. Clare.
The American president is due to touch down in Shannon Airport @4:30pm or so and with a trip to Trump International Hotel in Doonbeg on the cards, the people of the Banner county are rolling out the red carpet. Well most of them.
Ed Smith, who is sitting in for Dermot and Dave, gave journalist Páraic McMahon (of the Clare Echo) a call to hear all the news from the area.
McMahon chats about the hefty Gardaí presence (it really is a wall), shocks us with the amount of positivity from the locals and tells us the story about the time Trump asked former parish priest at Doonbeg, Fr Joe Haugh, "Can you get me to heaven?".
(Fr Joe celebrating 60 years in the Priesthood in 2017)
Like our Lord, Donald sure does work in mysterious ways.
