How have we never spotted this before?
Dave Moore threw on his Safari gear to delve into the serengeti for Dave's World.
Today's factoid was based on a question I've often pondered but never actually looked up - "Why do zebras have stripes?".
It's a defence mechanism that wards away biting insects. The colour combination and pattern confuses insect motion detection systems that control whether flies approach or land on the striped equids.
What's even more impressive is the Japanese research that went into finding this out. Pure genius!
Dave also plays a death metal version of this:
...and he loves it.
