We all look at them and wonder what's going on inside!
Well, this morning Dermot & Dave got to the bottom of just how a wind turbine works in Ask Me Anything.
As of 2020 the Republic of Ireland has 3700 megawatt of installed wind power nameplate capacity.
In 2015 wind turbines generated 23% of Ireland's average electricity demand, one of the highest wind power penetration in the world. Ireland's 250 wind farms are almost exclusively onshore, with only the 25 MW Arklow Bank Wind Park situated offshore as of 2020.
But, what is life like inside the turbines? Well some of the smaller ones have ladders that will bring engineers all the way to the top, while the bigger turbines - which can be seen in the Midlands - have a small lift, which can take those who to work on the them right to the top.
