In April, Brisbane woman Angie Yen underwent a fairly standard surgery to remove her tonsils.
Recovery went well and life was returning to normal for Angie, until one morning she woke up with a new accent.

Speaking to Dermot and Dave, Angie revealed that she realised something was amiss when she started singing in the shower.
Months later, Angie is still living with her new accent. The likely cause is something called Foreign Accent Syndrome, a rare speech disorder for which there is no known specific cause or cure.
It's been incredibly difficult for Angie, who has received an awful lot of abuse through social media, as well as adjusting to hearing a different voice every time she opens her mouth. She told Dermot and Dave, "I feel like a leopard with stripes when everyone else has spots”.
