A couple of weeks back, Mayo took on New York in the Connacht GAA Football Senior Championship over in Gaelic Park, NY (I'm sure you've seen the pictures and videos of the west of Ireland takeover in Times Square by now).

Well three of the ten-thousand-strong legion of fans who made the trip are Seán Tighe, Bernie Waldron and John Devanney from Ballyhaunis (or Ballyhappiness, as it's known), but little did they know that they would become famous after the expedition.

The lads had left their phones with "the wives" (who had no interest in the game) but wanted to get a snap of the three of them in the heart of the city.

To make this happen they approached a red-haired lady, who they presumed to be Irish, and asked her to take one with her phone.

It turned out that their photographer was from New Jersey and had no way of sending it to them directly. So she asked Twitter for some help, and it exploded:

When I was in the city last week, these three Irishmen asked me to take a photo of them, but none of them had phones.
“you’ll take the picture and we’ll find it someday”

Dermot and Dave gave Bernie a buzz to hear the story from the horse's mouth. And it's a piece of magic! The power of social media never ceases to amaze.

If this photo can find its way back to this side of the Atlantic so easily, surely Sam can make it across the Shannon in the near future!?
