So there we have it lads - after 213 Grade 1 successes and over 2,500 wins in total, Ruby Walsh yesterday shocked the racing world with his retirement, two weeks shy of his 40th birthday.
The National Hunt jockey even surprised trainer Willie Mullins with the announcement after telling him, "I'm finished" as he jumped off Gold Cup winning horse Kemboy in Punchestown, even though he was scheduled to ride at the meeting for the rest of this week.
