It's all about the "frit"
Dave's World has brought us some mind-blowing facts over the years, but this one might just be my favourite yet.
How have I never looked this up before?
You know that black band/line that goes around your windscreen? Well that's known as the "frit". The urethane glue that holds the glass to the frame is bonded on the frit line which gives it better adhesion to the glass. While the inward of the frit line aids the bond between the glass and the frame, the outward blocks the UV rays from harming the urethane which would cause damage to the bond over time.
And what about those black dots beside the frit line? Well they're not there just to look pretty, their function is to draw the eye away from the frit line gradually - as opposed to a sharp black line on its own that would distract the driver.
