Try and imagine a world without Google.
No maps, no YouTube, no email and no weird mind-reading ads.
Twenty one years ago, Google barely existed. If you wanted to know something you had to check a newspaper, head to a library or ask a smart relative. We all had that one relative who knew everything!
So what is it like living in an information-free zone?
Speaking to Dermot & Dave Tim Dowling, who writes for The Guardian, spoke about his reasons for going without Google for a week.
Before Google Tim remembers things like factual disputes in pubs and at dinner parties that simply never got settled, finding his own way around, learning straightforward repairs from books instead of videos but he doesn’t remember what it felt like.
What were the rules?
- No Google maps, search engine, browser or YouTube.
- No using other browsers-this is not about finding an alternative, it’s about doing without.
