To those on the outside, an 18 year old Shane Carthy had it all. He had a loving family, a great circle of friends, he was good at pretty much every sport he put his hand to, and he had just lifted the Sam Maguire in the Dublin jersey.
But for Shane, he was struggling under a 'dark cloud' that was taking over his whole life and putting the darkest of thoughts into his mind.
Shane ended up spending 11 weeks in St Patrick's Hospital and with the support of his family, friends, doctors and the greater GAA community, Shane has come through to the other side.
Since speaking out about his struggles, Shane has become an advocate for mental health in Ireland and he's just written his first book 'Dark Blue: The Despair Behind the Glory. My Journey Back from the Edge'.
Shane joined Dermot and Dave where he shared his experience of living with depression and the importance of talking to someone.
If Shane's chat has impacted you, support is available.
