You snooze, you win
Sleep deprivation is something majority of us suffer from. Whether it's going to bed too late, or hitting the hay early yet having a disrupted slumber, we seem to wake up wrecked most of the time. Sound familiar?
So what are we doing wrong?
Deirdre O'Connor is a Holistic Sleep Therapist who has years of experience in helping solve sleep behavioural issues.
Speaking on Dermot and Dave's Mind Yourself Now, Deirdre explains how anxiety is proving to be the key factor in most cases saying,
"When we're thinking constantly, our body's chemistry sets in...instead of the calming chemicals...we're fuelled up by adrenaline"
And as we all know, adrenaline definitely isn't what we need when trying to switch off.
Deirdre believes we have to learn how to settle ourselves, as we would children, before bedtime - a technique known as 'cranial unwinding'. And for this to work we need to give ourselves cues.
The expert wants to introduce us to a sleep that's restful and nourishing, where we'll wake up refreshed and ready for our day.
