As lockdown kicked in and TV series around the world halted production, it looked like it would be a long time before we’d see any new comedy on our screens.
But this Sunday on RTE One at 10:35, the first Irish comedy about the lockdown, made during lockdown will be on our screens, and our Dermot is starring in it!
The brainchild of James Cotter, Socially Distant is completely self-shot by the actors and uses video messages, group chats and all of those things that we’ve all come to know and love.
Socially Distant tells the story of a dysfunctional family trying to arrange a surprise birthday party during the onset of the coronavirus crisis.
Our Dermot plays Dave (we know, we know) and also stars Oliver Callan, Mary McEvoy, Eric Lalor, Bernard Casey, Camille Lucy Ross and Karen Kelly.
The show was made in April, at the height of lockdown and in an incredibly challenging environment with the actors having to become all-in-one cinematographers, sound-ops and stylists all while working with people they might not have even met before.
