Meet Royal. She’s an 18 month old lurcher who was found emaciated and about to give birth to a litter of pups in a pound.
Royal was, thankfully, fostered where she raised 5 healthy and happy puppies.
However, Royal is an example of a much larger problem in Ireland.
Dog rescues are at a crisis point, they’ve been a huge increase in people abandoning their pets as life returns to normal.
Often times, like Royal, they’re not spayed or neutered resulting in vet bills, or in more pups being born in heart breaking circumstances.
Some dogs will have health issues from bad breeding practices, others will have come from puppy farms.
A new campaign, Smooches For Pooches, is hoping to help raise some much needed funds to help the charities most in need.
Karla Mitchell from Cara Rescue joined Dermot and Dave to explain what the money is needed for, and to share Royal’s story.
