In an exclusive interview with Today FM, Mr Thomas Shelby himself, Cillian Murphy, discusses Knight's cultural phenomenon, giving us some insight into what it's like playing one of the highest profile personas in the world right now and why viewers are so fascinated by him.
Not being one for spoilers Murphy says,
"people are obsessed with finding information before fact. The beauty of it is going in and not knowing".
With this in mind, he treads carefully when describing the next phase of the story line but does confirm that talks of a movie AND a musical are true.
This added to the news that Knight has already begun writing series six has us licking our chops!
The Cork native continues by saying the new series is indeed "deeper and richer" and more "economic and ideological and for Tommy, it's psychological". The title character's pre-war trauma is "all coming back to roost".
Whilst doing his research on the role, Murphy says, "I remember putting Peaky Blinders into google and there was only one hit". This proves how little was known about those men.
When asked about learning how to talk like a Brummie, Cillian says, "for me, it's like taking your mouth to the gym...it takes about a month for me to figure an accent out". He then says, with a touch of relief, "the people of Birmingham have been very forgiving". We think he's got it down to a t!
Cillian also chats about starring in John Krasinski's A Quiet Place 2, why he has "more of a laugh with an Irish cast" and is honest about age being a factor in the industry, "your body talks to ya a bit more when you're 43. You have to listen to it".
We already know that the series premiere airs this Sunday, but it has also been confirmed that the second episode 'Black Cats' will air at 9.30pm on Monday, August 26th.
