We all hit A Bump Along the Way
Hands up if you're a big fan of Bronagh Gallagher...
The actor/singer has wowed us on stage and screen over the past 30 years ('Bernie McGloughlin' in The Commitments is still my fave) and now she's back in her latest movie A Bump Along the Way.
Bronagh plays Pamela - a boozy 44-year-old single mother whose teenage daughter Allegra disapproves of her care-free lifestyle. Their fragile relationship is further tested when Pamela becomes pregnant after a one-night stand:
Today FM's Dermot and Dave chat to the original Derry girl about the film, and learn why having a female-led production team made such a difference.
Written by Tess McGowan, produced by Bronagh's sister Louise and directed by Shelly Love, Gallagher describes them as the "triple F (Female)", who added authenticity to the storyline:
A lot of us would have been through these issues so you really know what the drill is. Menstrual cycles, menopause problems - you lock eyes and go 'I'm there sister'
Although the movie touches on these matters, the 47-year-old says, "We're not diving in too heavy - it's not a film about that. It's a film about the female relationship and the love, that love conquers all".
"We're stunned at the reaction" she continues to explain.
The lads then ask Bronagh about her music career and make her choose between it and her acting. There's only one winner;
When music touches your heart it literally reverberates and never stops
A Bump Along the Way hits cinemas on Friday, October 11th.
