Eating disorder services and GPs around Ireland have reported a massive increase in eating disorders during the pandemic, particularly during the latter half of the year.
Anxiety and distress around the pandemic as well as the disruption to our daily routines caused by lockdown have all contributed to the increase.
One eating disorder that has seen a massive increase is binge eating disorder. It was officially recognised as an eating disorder in 2013 and up to 30% of adults seeking advice for weight loss meet the criteria for BED.
